I am able to erase the drive and set it as GUID Partition Map and OS X Extended (Journaled). Satcomer's suggestion is a possibility but, possibly dangerous (damaging). I have a SATA hard drive converter/cable that lets me see my hard drive on my MacBook Pro.
So only when I get to the macOS Utilities screen is when it's not visible. In my BIOS, SATA mode is on AHCI, and my hard drive is visible in the BIOS as a boot option. But in both the Disk Utility and Install macOS option, my internal hard drive is not visible. I boot from my bootable USB drive and I can get to the macOS Utilities screen.
